Holly is studying abroad in Tokyo, Japan. She went out one afternoon with a few friends to the Kasai Rinkai Park and the Tokyo Sealife Park. There they met another group of American students in a different study abroad program.
They all spent the day and evening together having fun. One of the young men from the other group started spending a lot of time speaking with Holly. She felt a bit uncomfortable with him. The more she tried to move away from him, the more he seemed to want to be close to her.
When she went to go to the ladies room, she didn't realize he was following her. He pushed her against the wall of the bathroom and put his hand up her skirt. Luckily, Holly had learned some self-defense and was able to take him down to the ground, kick him where it hurt, and flee the bathroom.
Holly left with her friends completely shaken hoping just to forget about the attack. She called us a few days later asking for counseling. Because of donors like you, Holly is working through the assault. Thank you!
We also wanted to let you know that we have renamed our organizion to: Pathways To Safety International. We feel this name better reflects the work we do globally to help American victims of interpersonal and gender based violence abroad.
