This project addresses the challenge of college to career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). By giving a student access to various supports, including study, faculty and dean support, workshops in academic excellence, orientations, advising, and career professional development, this program offers a bridge between community college and career for a minority student. Funding will provide professional connection opportunities to a group of 5-10 students.
While many underrepresented students begin their path toward the baccalaureate degree at community colleges, facilitating their exposure to STEM careers and leadership development in their first two years of college is often nonexistent. This program seeks to ensure that a community college student has the opportunity to make meaningful industry connections.
This project will work closely with local industry and professionals to give a community college student opportunities and experience in STEM fields. Experiences may include: participation in hands-on academic design challenges, conference series that provide connections between students and professionals, and networking events that provide springboards for career pathways.
Through professional leadership development, a student will have the opportunity to improve their marketability, skills development, networking, mentorship, and understanding of STEM careers and connections.
