This project will help maintain our computer and technology equipment at The Mariposa Center for Girls. We provide computer access for all of our girls to help them succeed in school, learn valuable job skills and explore the world! Computer skills are critical for every job and it is our goal to make sure that girls are interested in computers, know how to use them safely, and develop skills that will lead to gainful employment.
Public schools do not offer access to computers and technology in our community. There are public internet cafes where people can pay small fees to access computers but they are often not safe spaces for young girls, nor a suitable environment for studying. Many girls have basic skills and know how to use search engines and social media, however they have no opportunities to learn valuable job skills and how to stay safe on the internet. At our center we provide a safe learning space for girls.
Our computers, classrooms and access to instructors and tutors provide opportunities for girls to safely access computers, study in a quiet environment and develop basic office skills that will lead to gainful employment. Computer literacy is critical to success in today's world and we are giving our girls every shot at preparing for the future.
This will provide 100 girls with safe access to computers, opportunities to develop job skills and a peaceful study environment. Girls are often left behind in the tech world and we are working to get them interested in computers, using them safely, and gaining skills that will help lift them and their families out of poverty.
