An estimated over 100 children at Luwanula Blessed Junior School access water daily from un improved sources , such as open wells, or surface water from the rain. Lack of clean water lead to diseases like diarrhea, which ranks as the highest cause of mortality rate, morbidity and school absenteeism. The project will provide two 10,000 tanks to harvest safe rain water from the roof tops of the school. The water will be used for drinking ,cooking and hand washing for all the children at school .
Mayuge District is one of the districts that clean water sources in all rural areas. Most communities including schools access water from open wells, surface water from the rain which expose especially children to water bone diseases like diarrhea. Lack of water leads to school absenteeism, poor performance, school dropout. Basic mitigation strategies are expensive to rural schools as their budgets don't provide this expenditure. Therefore, the need for safe and clean water remains a challenge.
The project will provide two 10,000 liters of water tank to harvest rain water from the school tops. The project will fix the necessary implements to harvest rain water from the roof tops of the school and the water will be accessed from selected water points for the children to drink and hand washing. This will improve on the health condition of the children as they will be drinking and using clean water, hence there will be improvement in level of education, and literate community in future.
Provision of clean and safe water will save children the dangers of infective diseases like diarrhea and other water related health challenges. There will be regular and uninterrupted attendance at school that will lead to improved education standard and increased level of the literate community in the future. There will also be a lower level of mortality rate for the children in the area leading to better standard of living because the community will make informed decisions for the community.
