Summary

This microproject transforms the BASS Daycare from a simple shelter into a dignified, healthy environment by installing child-friendly toilets. For 100 children of seasonal chili yard workers, this ends the indignity of open defecation and reduces preventable diseases. With a private, hygienic sanitation block, working mothers gain peace of mind knowing their children are in a germ-free setting. This project bridges the gap between seasonal migration and the fundamental right to health.

Challenge

In the Guntur Chili Yard, 100 children from seasonal migrant families face a severe health crisis. Living in temporary sheds, they lack basic sanitation at their daycare center. Without proper toilets, children are forced into open defecation, leading to frequent outbreaks of diarrhea and skin infections. This project will install child-friendly toilets and clean water facilities, replacing disease and indignity with safety, health, and a clean environment.

Solution

To protect 100 children at the Guntur Chili Yard BASS Daycare center, this project will construct a dedicated sanitation block. By installing child-friendly toilets and urinals, we will end the indignity of open defecation. A multi-tap station will be added to promote essential handwashing, while weekly hygiene sessions for children will ensure the facilities stay clean, fostering long-term health, safety, and dignity

Long-Term Impact

By establishing permanent toilet infrastructure, the BASS Daycare Center will serve successive waves of seasonal migrant children for years to come. In the long term, improved health leads to better focus & cognitive development, ensuring these children do not fall behind in their early childhood education. This project creates a "culture of hygiene" that children carry back to their temporary sheds, influencing their parents & raising the overall health standards of the entire laborer community
