JA of Chicago's High School Heroes program offers outstanding high school students the opportunity to become positive role models in a neighborhood elementary school by teaching JA programs. The program is a very meaningful leadership opportunity that will foster personal growth and responsibility in the participating high school students. The experience instills community service values, grows confidence in public speaking skills, and helps students stand out in college and job applications.
Now more than ever, students need an educational experience that gives them confidence about their future and skills to succeed in the global economy. The uncertain economy and number of jobs requiring postsecondary education is on the rise. Without the proper education and experience, high school students may find themselves lacking the skills needed for a successful economic future.
The High School Heroes program inspires and empowers high school students to believe in themselves, showing them they can make a difference in the world by giving them the opportunity to educate youth in their own neighborhood on fundamental economic principles. Participating high school students gain the confidence they need for future success, as well as earn reputable skills to apply to their college & job applications.
It's been proven that students who receive JA six times during their school career are 90% more likely to graduate from high school. The goal of our project will be for youth to develop attitudes aligned with high school graduation and 21st century skills that prepare them for success. In addition, JA programs improve student academic performance and achievement leading to increased graduation rates.
