Summary

Displacement isolates young refugees in Corinth, taking a heavy toll on their mental health. You can help them heal through sport. To mark 11 years of Lighthouse Relief, we are holding a fundraising basketball tournament to fund free sessions for young refugees in Corinth. These sessions break isolation, rebuild confidence, and foster community. Your donation funds equipment, and safe spaces to play. Help us keep sports running - even a small donation can make a significant difference.

Challenge

Young refugees in Greece face an invisible crisis: severe trauma, anxiety, and deep social isolation. Without safe, inclusive spaces, they are cut off from play, physical exercise, and peer support, essential elements for mental health and recovery. We support young refugees in Greece by removing barriers to sports through the provision of essential athletic equipment. By creating safe, inclusive spaces like basketball sessions, trauma and social isolation.

Solution

By hosting regular basketball sessions, we create safe, inclusive spaces for refugee youth in Greece to exercise, build friendships, and access mental health support/alleviate stress. Your donation helps us buy the equipment we need to provide these sessions: basketballs, shoes for the players, as well as helping us to cover the cost of our transportation, and to support our dedicated team.

Long-Term Impact

For those affected by displacement, access to recreational activities helps reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. In turn, this encourages connections, a stronger sense of belonging, and learning to integrate with peers and local community, through shared sporting activities - helping participants on their journey to rebuild safe, fulfilled lives. Our impact has been recognised by the International Peace & Sports Forum, honouring us with the 2024 "Empowerment through Sports" award.
