This Mother's Day project brings people together to support rhino mothers and calves at Care for Wild, funding their protection so mums can stay wild and safe with their babies. In 2022, orphaned rhinos Wyntir and Storm gave birth to a healthy calf, the first successful birth for two orphaned rhinos. Since then, 29 more calves have been born, showing that with care, orphaned rhinos can grow up and secure the future of their species.
Poaching leaves rhino mums and their babies vulnerable, often killing mothers and orphaning calves. Without protection, these young rhinos face grave danger. By supporting Care for Wild, we can safeguard mothers and their calves, giving them the care, safety, and guidance they need to grow strong and survive, helping to secure their future.
Supporters in the UK take part in a "30 challenge" in honour of the 30 calves born at Care for Wild. Activities can include walking, jumping, baking, or any task linked to 30, with friends and family sponsoring them. Funds raised go directly to caring for rhino mothers and calves, providing protection, veterinary care, and support for their ongoing survival.
Thirty calves have now been born at Care for Wild, showing orphaned rhinos can recover, grow, and raise the next generation. Each calf represents hope for the species and strengthens wild populations. Support ensures rhino mothers and calves continue to thrive, helping secure a future for rhinos in Africa and inspiring hope for wildlife conservation.
