October 2026 Report

By Petronel Nieuwoudt | Founder & CEO

The ultimate measure of our conservation model is seeing rewilded rhinos thrive and reproduce. To date, a remarkable 34 rhino calves have been born to rewilded and released orphans within Care for Wild's protected populations. This year alone, since January, we have welcomed 6 new rhino calves into our sanctuary family, including a critically endangered black rhino birth. Among these was a historic full-circle moment on May 17th, when Satara, the very first orphan rescued from Kruger National Park 12 years ago, gave birth to her first calf and is now raising her baby safely in the wild.

Protecting these growing families across thousands of hectares requires a constant, multi-layered security force. Because of your support, we have been able to directly invest in the frontline teams that keep them safe around the clock. This year, 25 rangers including 3 female officers completed an intensive, month-long Junior Leader Course, advancing their tactical field skills and leadership to secure our perimeters and guard these vulnerable moms and calves.

We have also strengthened our protective blanket from the air through cutting-edge drone technology. In partnership with Sentala, Care for Wild has been testing AI-driven drone technology to improve real-time wildlife monitoring and threat detection. Furthermore, two of our frontline rangers completed rigorous training and exams to become fully certified professional drone pilots under South African Civil Aviation Authority regulations. Operating alongside our ground patrols, K9 tracking units, and AI tracking collars, these aerial eyes provide invaluable coverage over rugged terrain.

Every dollar raised for this project has gone directly into safeguarding the future of the species. Because of you, rhino moms are raising their babies in safety, and a new generation of wild rhinos is taking root. Thank you for making this life-saving work possible.
