Swimming for little hearts

By Lola Fernandez | Director of Strategic Alliances

Fernando M. was born in Mexico on September 29 1986. He grew up in Spain and now lives in London. He has been practicing competitive swimming for 4 years. He is a committed athlete and on this occasion, Fernando decided to dedicate his feat to raising funds for Kardias which treats children born with Congenital Heart Disease. “I can continue to support Mexico; the country I was born in.”

On September 16, open water swimmer Fernando made one of the most dangerous routes in the world: the crossing of the Catalina Canal, in California.

Fernando said he could understand children with this condition when he swims because every stroke he feels difficulty to breathe in such cold waters and the weight of his body making a tremendous effort to move and continue swimming. He cannot believe this is how children with CHD feel every day until they are treated.
