Callie was sexually assaulted while teaching English in Spain in July. She must now go back to court in Spain and face her attacker. She is terrified. With this project, we will be able to hire a therapist in Spain to go with her to court. The therapist has reduced her fees to $50 for 10 hours. The therapist will be able to help Callie prepare for the trial and will be with her in court.
American women, and men, going overseas to teach English are devastated when they experience sexual abuse. They often have to return to the foreign country months after the assault took place and are forced to be in the same courtroom as the perpetrator. Callie is strong but her nightmares have returned. She feels vulnerable and afraid. By hiring a therapist to help prepare Callie, and be with her in court, she will feel safer and less traumatized.
Callie will be able to build a trusting relationship with the therapist prior to going into court, and will feel safe and secure during the court hearing.
According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 65 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be 39,000 Americans raped in foreign countries annually. From the sexual assault victims that have contacted us in various foreign countries, they are extremely grateful for our help and assistance when no one else would or could provide the services we provide to them.
