With generous support from our donors and with the gift of a grant from GlobalGiving, Makindu Children's Program has reached the goal set in our microproject "Buy a Goat, Feed a Family."
The funds have been delivered to the Makindu Children's Centre, where the process of procuring and distributing the goats is underway.
This project has made so very many guardians and households extremely happy and is the first real empowerment many of them have ever felt. The dairy goats are having a HUGE IMPACT: they grow fast, produce more than enough milk for the household with extra to sell, and bring a nice profit when sold for meat. Goats are hardy, giving some families another stream of income when crops or cattle are affected by droug
Makindu Children's Center is working with Animal Health Officers from the Ministry of Livestock, to train the guardians on care and management of the goats. The guardians are trained on site, for the officers move to all the sites accompanied by MCC staff.
We are so grateful that the response from you, our donors and from the GlobalGiving community itself has enabled us to meet this need so expediently!
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
