Although we are in solidarity with the population of the City, it seems essential to us to pay attention to the rural communities of the surrounding municipalities. In the rural communities there will be no corn, bean or pumpkin harvest. The basic diet of rural families and their only income were lost. We will work, together with the affected families, to restore the soil and recover the corn fields. In the meanwhile, while we investigate and propose long term solutions to vulnerability.
After Otis hurricane, the most violent event in the history of Guerrero, hit the coast, overflowing rivers and strong winds destroyed corn fields, leaving entire families without a harvest. The basic diet of rural families was lost. This not only directly affects their alimentation, but also means the complete loss of their only income. Most communities were isolated due to the collpase of roads, and high prices of the basics prevent their purchase.
Cooperacion Comunitaria's team is already in Guerrero carrying out a diagnosis of the situation in the Mountain Region. However, we are beginning to coordinate with some allies to be able to carry out assessments in the coastal area, which has been the most affected. Our greatest concern is that rural coastal communities, many of which are located on the slopes of overflowing rivers, will be left unattended. Therefore, we will seek to raise money to carry out diagnoses in rural areas.
Your support will provide Inmediate response to food needs, facilitating technical assistance to restore the soil and recover the fields. 100 people will strengthen their capabilities to manage risks. You will also support the diagnosis of root causes of vulnerability, in order to plan long-term solutions for the most vulnerable communities.
