From foundational technology exposure to visual programming, technology skills and training provide youth the opportunity to be content creators instead of just consumers. Engagement in STEM and microbusiness programming provides youth with critical learning and career development skills.
Youth growing up and attending school in the neighborhoods surrounding this location experience the highest rate of poverty, highest chronic unemployment and lowest academic achievement than any other youth in the metro area. These youth also experience more violence and hunger than any other in the metro area. A few programs have begun to show signs of change but it takes more to make the sustainable generational change that is needed to change the direction.
Students will engage in hands-on STEM instruction and skill development. They will learn to work collaboratively, develop critical thinking skills, hone learning skills, express ideas and get exposure to the foundations of entrepreneurship. Training will be enhanced with speakers/mentors and field trips. Mobile app development and networking provide opportunity to build on foundational tech skills while preparing for 21st century post-secondary education, STEM careers, and entrepreneurship.
Impactful engagement develops character/ belonging. A safe place and body+spirit fuel setup higher potential. Caring adults model actions for youth replication. Treating herself better leads to ripples of improvement, learning and readiness. Accepting higher expectation and expecting it in return.
