The village Ormanie currently has 30 students in pre-primary school but when they finish they have to go to Terat for primary school. This is 6km away and very far for young children to walk everyday. Often children have to walk by themselves, or they try to stay with relatives in Terat. There are often elephants and sometimes even lions in the area. This makes it very dangerous for children to walk alone. The village really want to build a primary school for their students.
Many children in Ormanie subvillage do not go to school. The nearest primary school is more than 5 miles walk away, across a river. Children are afraid of attack by wild animals, and last year three were washed away while attempting to cross the river. Only two could be saved. Ormani wants to solve this problem by building their own primary school right in the middle of the community.
This project will help the community construct a pre primary school, after which the government will provide teachers and the school can start up. Parents will be more willing to send their children to school without the worries about safety, and the children will be spared 3 hours of walking every day, which can be spent doing homework, playing or helping their parents instead. Children from neighbouring communities will also be able to use this school so it could reach more than 30 children.
This school will provide education to more than 30 children in Ormanie subvillage and neighbouring villages on an ongoing basis. Parents will have little reason not to send their children to school any more, so the educational level of the whole community will increase. This will lead to increased incomes and opportunities in the community, as well as less obvious impacts such as children being more able to help parents by, for example, reading labels and instructions on veterinary medicines.
