Build a Playground for 600 Haitian Schoolchildren project has for years been a dream but unattainable in light of more critical priorities such as provision of textbooks, training of teachers, building of new classrooms and provision of daily nutritional meals.
The project is an initiative started by Partners for Haitian Children in alliance with the Georgetown University Latin American Students Association and French Cultural Association.
Thanks largely to the generosity of Georgetown University students $743 was donated through the micro project. Although we did not reach our goal of $3,000, the amount received is making possible first steps toward turning the dream into reality.
Teachers, parents and children are very excited that for the first time since the school was founded, a special space will be created for the children to play. The $743 is financing youth basketball hoops, youth mini-size basketballs and youth soccer balls. The remainder of the funds will be cover the shipping cost of the equipment bought in the USA as well as its installation in Haiti.
The purpose of the micro project is to provide the opportunity for the children to play and learn sport and give them the chance of a better future from playing games directly and also from ideas that are developed through the games such as sportsmanship, leadership skills, team work and self-conficence that will impact their lives in the long-run.
We are most grateful to all those who made possible this initiative which will make a huge difference in the lives of the children attending Our Lady of Perpetual School in Haiti's Artibonite Valley
