While it is #BackToSchool time for many children, for millions of young girls it is more like 'back to the kitchen!' Seema lives in a faraway village in Rajasthan (India) and used to be confined to her home doing household chores and looking after her siblings until recently. Educate Girls brings out of school girls like Seema #BackToSchool so they have an opportunity to carve a better future for themselves. This academic year, these girls await your help so they have access to an education!
In rural Rajasthan, over 350,000 girls aren't enrolled in elementary school. Their families struggle to live on labour and farming. In those remote, tribal communities, a patriarchal mindset prevails with a strong gender bias favoring boys and their education. Many parents see educating their daughter as a futile investment; while some others object to sending girls to school for more practical reasons, like security, poor school infrastructure, etc.
Everything changed as Seema's path crossed Educate Girls. We identified her as an out-of-school girl, convinced the community first and then her parents to enrol her. After that, we ensured she stays in school and progresses in academic learning and life skills. Your support will cover the cost of program management and manpower needed to successfully conduct the current enrolment drive (5 USD/ girl on average) and thus get 1000 girls like Seema back to school!
Girls' education is a powerful catalyst for development. It has a multiplier effect and improves a wide range of socio-economic indicators. An educated girl will make better decisions for herself and her family and will contribute towards her community's upliftment by entering the economy and educating her own children. UN and World Bank research show that when girls go to school, birth rates, child mortality and violence against women decrease, while family health and national income improve.
