Raising A Reader Thanks You

By Jenna Nguyen | Manager, Business Development and Brand

Whether a child wants to be a parent, a teacher or walk on the moon, you are helping turn those dreams into reality through the power of reading. Few other early literacy programs operate as Raising A Reader does with national reach and proven impact. Since 1999, donors like you have helped us serve more than 1.6 million families to develop, practice and maintain home-based literacy routines that are linked to school and life success.

In 2017, we launched one of the nation's most ambitious early literacy campaigns, RAR 3.0M, with a goal of reaching 3 million children and families by the end of 2020. Your generous contributions allowed us to partner with 290 affiliates, expanded to more than 2,900 implementation sites and served more than 126,000 children and families. Our impact was felt across the country from inner cities and suburbs to rural areas and neighborhoods.

We were inspired by your generosity and the time and resources you provided. RAR’s impact is made possible because of your support. Together, through your generosity, we raised nearly $1.9 million in 2017 for our core program to serve children and families across the country. We expanded into Detroit and Oklahoma City for the first time due to the generosity of donors who wanted to change the legacy of their cities. And nearly 400 volunteers contributed 900 hours of their time to help us extend our reach and impact. To all of our donors, financial and volunteer, we thank you.

To all of you, ten million children started kindergarten last September and we are fighting for the seven million that won't be able to read proficiently by Grade 4 if current national trends continue. We thank you for your passion and commitment to ensuring all children can read and pursue their dreams, whatever those may be.
