Red Bags are Here!
Red Bags are Here!

Whether a child wants to be a parent, a teacher or walk on the moon, you are helping turn those dreams into reality through the power of reading. Few other early literacy programs operate as Raising A Reader does with national reach and proven impact. Since 1999, donors like you have helped us serve more than 1.6 million families to develop, practice and maintain home-based literacy routines that are linked to school and life success.

In 2017, we launched one of the nation's most ambitious early literacy campaigns, RAR 3.0M, with a goal of reaching 3 million children and families by the end of 2020. Your generous contributions allowed us to partner with 300 affiliates, expanded to more than 3,000 implementation sites and served more than 126,000 children and families. Our impact was felt across the country from inner cities and suburbs to rural areas and neighborhoods.

We were inspired by your generosity and the time and resources you provided. RAR’s impact is made possible because of your support.  Your patronage of the “Bring Books About Special Needs to Young Readers” project was critical to curate RAR’s special book collection that focuses on providing reading materials about special needs characters across the spectrum to our program participants and their families. As result, parents of special needs children who need assistance with books are provided a menu of participation strategies on the inside cover of each book to better serve them in book sharing strategies. The direct impact of your contribution supported children at Baltimore County Public Schools and Worcester County Public Schools with a total of 8 Exceptional Diversity birth to Pre-K book sets and 11 Exceptional Diversity School Age book sets, These sets served 19 classrooms and impacted an estimated 475 children.

To all of you, ten million children started kindergarten last September and we are fighting for the seven million that won't be able to read proficiently by Grade 4 if current national trends continue. We thank you for your passion and commitment to ensuring all children can read and pursue their dreams, whatever those may be!
