Maternal Health services are insufficient in the South West Region of Cameroon and extremely poor in many rural communities. This exposes mothers and babies to infections and risk of preventable death. Reach Out Cameroon is trying to remedy this situation. We distribute Birthing Kits(gloves, cotton, plastic sheet sterilized blade, etc..) in isolated communities free of charge. The project will provide logistical assistance to distribute 13.200 birthing kits to rural mothers and health facilities
Many pregnant women of the target rural communities (Ndian and Lebialem Divisions) do not give birth at recognized health facilities. This is because of the costs, but also because of lack of awareness of the importance of giving birth in a prepared facility. Most of them turn to Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA) with little or no specialization and unhygienic equipment in delivery.
With your support, we will be able to reach to some of the most isolated communities of Cameroon and distribute birthing kits to community leaders and health facilities. 13200 babies will be delivered using professional and hygienic tools.
This project has a direct impact on infant mortality. Because of your donation, a child that would have died or been hurt by complications in delivery will go on to have a healthy life. With a 5% HIV rate in the country, you will also ensure that an HIV positive mother does not infect its newborn child during delivery.
