We need to help 10 teenagers from Los Vazquez -one of the poorest communities of Tucuman Province (Northern Argentina)- go back to school during the global COVID-19 crisis. This project will match other gifts for the same community, raising funds for a total of 30 teens to cover school expenses.
In Argentina, school starts in March! The Coronavirus crisis has especially affected teenagers that are completing high school. COVID-19 has pushed 41% of the population in Tucuman to poverty and near 8% to extreme poverty, and many are having a hard time going back to school. We are looking to beat the odds with this project, through education, leadership, and empowerment.
Funding would allow teenagers living in the Los Vazquez community to access a student scholarship program hosted by Fundacion Leon that delivers financial and socioemotional support to secondary/high school students facing economic challenges. Activities include one-on-one interviews with students and parents, different employability conferences and courses, such as job interview role playing, LinkedIn workshops and even internships in coding companies.
Our evidence-based scholarship program supports high school students and families during their educational experience. Our goal to prepare for success in school and employability. Research has shown our model to be effective in improving school readiness, parent involvement, school attendance, and effective graduation.
