We have kicked off 2022 with the rescue of five young barn owls and need your help. This project will provide necessary care during rehab and soft release for all five owls. Help us help them fly free!
The two older siblings will be with us another 4 weeks or so and the trio of youngsters will be with BBR for at least another 8 weeks. Rehab costs are comprised of transport fees (to/from rescue and release), medical needs and food expenses including support during soft release. We will be documenting their rehabilitation and release on our social media as well as in reports here on GlobalGiving.
Your support will allow us to rehabilitate and release these five owls without using funds allocated for other projects.
BBR's programs and facilities give rescued and confiscated birds a chance of freedom, making enforcement less controversial for the Government. Historically, with nowhere to place confiscated parrots, illegal poaching and pet-keeping was ignored. Tourism is a major part of the economy and the abundance of 500+ species of parrots and other wild birds draw tourists to Belize - crucial in the wake of covid-19. Every bird released has a positive impact on wild populations, and on public perceptions.
