From Silence to Strength: Protecting Child Rights

Avuxeni, Minjhani? Ni pfukile, minjani!

In 2022, we did something most organizations don't: we asked the children of Greater Tzaneen what was holding them back.

Our Children’s Rights Situational Analysis revealed a heartbreaking truth: many children felt their voices were invisible in the very communities meant to protect them. Rights violations—ranging from a lack of safety to being excluded from local governance—were stifling the potential of our youth.

At Keep The Dream196, we decided that "invisible" was no longer an option.

For the past four years, we have used that data as a roadmap for revolution. We aren't just teaching children about their rights; we are changing the world around them so those rights can actually flourish.

How we are changing the system:

  • Training the Gatekeepers: We work directly with Traditional Leaders (Indunas) to integrate child protection into village governance. When an Induna stands up for a child, the whole community listens.
  • Working alongside schools: we are working with teachers to equip them to power share with children, to address school related rights violations and to provide safe environments for learners.
  • SHG addressing poverty in the home: For years, while we excelled in youth leadership, the raw poverty within the children's homes remained a barrier we couldn't directly dismantle. We recognized that extreme poverty leaves families uniquely vulnerable to rights violations at every level. Through the Self-Help Group (SHG) model, we finally have the missing piece of the puzzle. We are now systematically addressing core financial instability at the household level, ensuring that the 'home front' is as resilient and rights-respecting as the children we lead.

 Your Gift Protects a Future:

  • $30 funds a "Rights Workshop" for a local school, giving 50 children the language to advocate for themselves.
  • $75 supports a training session for Traditional Indunas, turning local authorities into Child Rights Champions.
  • $150 sustains a Peer Supporter Hub for a month, providing a lifeline for children facing trauma or abuse.

For 23 years, we have been the shield and the megaphone for the children of Limpopo. With your help, we can ensure that every child’s right to be safe, educated, and heard is a reality—not just a dream.

Join us in Keeping The Dream alive.

With hope and determination,

Louise
