Summary

This past Thursday, September 7th, our Peten Wildlife Rescue Center was hit by a very strong storm, knocking out the power, destroying rehabilitation enclosures and destroying infrastructure and equipment. This is an emergency campaign to raise funds to repair and restore this damage and relocate animals that are currently in cramped, temporary quarters. Funding will be used to repair jaguar and parrot enclosures, and water and electrical systems. Your generous support is urgently needed.

Challenge

I hope this message finds you well. Today, I come to you with an urgent and heartfelt appeal on behalf of the dedicated team at ARCAS Guatemala. Our sanctuary, located in the heart of the rainforest of Peten, has recently faced a devastating storm. Heavy rains and strong winds have wreaked havoc on our animal enclosures and electrical and water systems. This unexpected disaster has left us with significant damage and most importantly with a lack of space and equipment for the animals.

Solution

Your generous support is vital in helping us address these critical damages and provide a secure and comfortable environment for the incredible wildlife we work tirelessly to protect. Here's how your donation will make a difference: Cage Repairs: The heavy rains damaged several animal enclosures, endangering the animals in our care. Your contribution will help us repair and reinforce these enclosures to ensure the safety and well-being of our resident wildlife.

Long-Term Impact

This project aims to conserve the biodiversity of Guatemala, preserving this rich legacy for future generations. It promotes ecotourism, birdwatching, handicrafts production and other sustainable ways to take advantage of this biodiversity without destroying it. Animal-based tourism is growing rapidly in Guatemala, and if managed correctly can offer a sustainable economic alternative for future generations. Protected areas provide vital environmental services and help mitigate climate change.
