Angelita is 14 and has been in our sponsorship program since 2011. Education is not highly rated in Guatemala so many girls end up starting their own family at a very young age. Angelita, however, wants to keep studying, but to do that she needs a tutor. You can help her.
Angelita, like many girls of her age, lives in a mountain-side slum in which violence and illiteracy are commonplace. Her dream of success through education is not supported by her community, to the extent that she has already been bullied for thinking this way. She is not excelling in school and we are also concerned that this treatment might bring her into a spiral of depression, lack of self-worth and possibly a teen pregnancy.
By funding this project, we will provide, manage, and monitor a tutor for one year for Angelita who can empower her potential as a student, as a woman and as an important member of her community. She can also become a living example for other girls of the importance of education. In addition her self-esteem will rise in unison with her emotional and psychological state of mind.
By investing in Angelita's education she will be able to manifest her dream of a brighter future for herself, better living conditions for her mom and sisters, and to help her country by bringing awareness to the awful conditions in which many of its people live and eventually to bring change to those situations. To hear her say all of this, see the recent video we took of her, translated by one of the co-founders of the Integral Heart Foundation.
