Most of the widow mothers have lived in harsh conditions, poverty & neglect throughout their lives, which has direct bearing on their health. From poor eyesight to bad stomach ulcer, diabetes to paralytic stroke, they face a range of health problems. Maitri's timely intervention helps their health condition from deteriorating. The Home is equipped with a medical bed, doctor on call and a full time nurse. But we lack a basic ambulance service, and face a lot of trouble in providing immediate help
Widows are taken to the hospital for various blood tests, X-rays and scans depending on their requirements. Medical care is a central feature of what Maitri does for its widows. The health of Maiyyas as they are lovingly called is of paramount importance in Maitri Ghar Ashram. Doctors visit the ashram twice a week and as per severity of the illness the Maiyyas are rushed to the hospital without wasting any time. An ambulance is a dire need for the ashram.
Owing to the traffic, bad infrastructure and lack of availability of transport at short notice, an ambulance would help us make the Maiyyas reach the hospital in time and avert medical emergencies. An ambulance would also help us assure the Maiyyas that they are safe and they will be taken care of because the hospitals are far away from the ashram.
In addition to health supplements, and enabling access to general and multi-specialty healthcare an ambulance will help us in times of emergencies. These women will be able to lead healthier lives. This will facilitate better and fuller potentials of lives and achieving total human rights.
