Our goal is to strengthen our community leadership's capacity to find common solutions for their families and townships through education, participatory processes, and activism. We have learned that an organized community can protect its people, and all they need is guidance to reach agreements and work towards a common objective.
Historically, Loiza was divided into 62 communities that didn't communicate with each other. Their residents didn't reach beyond their territorial limits and were dependent on community leaders to get help and resources in case of emergency. After the hurricanes in 2017, people knew that in order to survive the lack of adequate government response they couldn't work alone. This project will allow Taller Salud to keep promoting community education and organizing.
We will develop educational campaigns to teach people how to get ready in case of emergencies. We will keep fighting for just recovery, so people can have real participation in recovery efforts and their implementation.
This project will strengthen the communities' capacity to fight for their rights and transform their living conditions so everyone can obtain decent housing, a guarantee of zero displacements and gain real opportunities for economic development.
