This project will help invest a small business at the HTDC orphanage. When we've raised $500 per child, the orphanage will be able to buy a bus and make $750 of profit a month. That profit will provide kids like Germina. Germina's mom died in child birth, and she was abandoned shortly there-after. She was sick when she got to the orphanage, but she's a fighter and she pulled through. By investing in the orphanage's business, you'll give Germina a secure future.
The orphanage receives no financial support from the government, so they have to care for kids like Germina on their own. Germina was born premature and was on death's door when she arrived. The staff at the orphanage used funds donated by people living overseas to nurse Germina back to health, and now she's approaching her 4th birthday. The orphanage is thankful for the donors who saved Germina's life, but relying on handouts leaves them vulnerable. They need to be financially independent.
By helping the orphanage start a business to make its own profit, you reduce the orphanage's reliance on the kindness of strangers. That means that the orphanage will be able to meet the needs of kids like Germina without having to hope for donations. Financial independence helps all the kids in the orphanage's care have a more secure future!
This project will fund the purchase a bus and a set of new tires. The bus will be rented out to local drivers who will pay daily or weekly for the use of the bus. Depending on monthly service costs the bus will earn between $900 and $750 for the orphanage every month. Those profits will move the orphanage toward financial independence and ensure that the orphanage can survive into the future regardless of where donors choose to send their funds.
