This project will provide a year of safe housing for fourteen year old Wilkenson. After his parents died in 2009 his grandmother tried to care for him and his brothers, but she couldn't afford to feed them. So she was forced to abandon them at the HTDC orphanage. Wilkenson has been through a lot, but he's still one of the orphanage's funniest kids - and he loves soccer! But without the orphanage to keep him safe, Wilkenson would be forced to fend for himself as a street-kid.
As an orphan, Wilkenson is among the most vulnerable of Haitian children. There isn't an effective nationwide child protection service operating in Haiti to provide for his basic needs. This means that, without your help, Wilkenson would be a homeless street-kid, leaving him vulnerable to exploitation and destined to a life of suffering and poverty.
By donating today, you'll help us provide the home Wilkenson needs to stay safe and to grow up with a fighting chance. You'll also help us provide caregivers to look after Wilkenson and ensure he has access to water and electricity. Note that the orphanage is home to around thirty children. Donations to this project will cover Wilkenson's share of the costs over a year, but will be spent on all the children in parallel as we fundraise for each in turn.
