This project will give to Oriana, a low member amputee, a new taylor made and personalized prosthesis, giving her the chance to walk without using crutches and the possibility to be completely independent and healthy.
In Colombia there are more than 780.000 people that need to use crutches, wheel chairs or walking sticks, because they have a walking disability. According to the 2005 Colombian census there are amputees due to several causes like landmines, violence, diabetes, cancer and birth malformations, among others. This project will give Oriana, a prosthesis so she can go to college and have a better access to education and work, becoming and independent and healthy young woman empowered of her future.
By giving a prosthesis to Oriana you will give her the chance to walk without crutches and she will be able to go by herself to college and study medicine as she has always dreamed. If she gets a prosthesis she will be an independent and healthy woman and will no longer depend on her mothers help to develop the simplest task in her daily life. You wil give her the opportunity to smile again, and feel beautiful and confident with her body. You will give her the chance to start over!!
Makavir Kmina provides prostheses to 450 amputees per year. This project will provide in a one-year period, prostheses to 30 children and youth between 1 and 25 years old who have suffered lower limb amputation allowing them to become independent in their daily life activities. Therefore they will have the opportunity to return to school, college or work, thus improving their living conditions and those of the people around them.
