This project will provide safe housing for four year old Matialdo. Matialdo's mum is still alive but she left Matialdo at the orphanage after his dad was killed in a hurricane. The orphanage hopes to reunite the family in future, but for now they're looking after him. Matialdo's a quiet boy, but he loves his food and playing with other children his age. Yet, without the orphanage to keep him safe, Matialdo would be forced to fend for himself as a street-kid.
The HTDC Orphanage does its very best for the children in its care, but the situation in Haiti is even tougher right now than usual. Years of political unrest and the assassination of the President have created chaos and rising prices, and the impacts of Covid-19 on the global economy mean that donations are drying up. This means that we urgently need your support to keep providing a safe home for Matialdo.
By donating today, you'll help us pay the rent at HTDC Orphanage to provide the home Matialdo needs to stay safe and to grow up with a fighting chance. You'll also help us provide caregivers to look after Matialdo and ensure he has access to water and electricity. Donations to this project will cover Matialdo's share of the costs, but will be spent on all the children in parallel as we fundraise for each in turn.
A safe home and care are essential for every child. By providing these for Matialdo, you're giving him the foundations he needs to build a bright future.

Every microproject is intended to use the donations it receives in accordance with its stated description; however, it is important to provide project leaders with the flexibility to maximize the potential benefit from the donations they receive. This means that your donation may be used as a part of the main project that supports this microproject, specifically Provide a safe home for Haitian Orphans. In this event, the project leader is required to post an update to the microproject detailing the results and reasons behind this change.
If you or any other donor is unhappy with the way their funds have been used, he or she can reallocate their donation using the GlobalGiving guarantee.
