Bupana is 8 and she's a survivor of two Nepal earthquakes. Bupana lives with her family in Bhaktapur. Bupana's school was damaged in the first earthquake and Bupana and her classmates are now struggling to learn in a hot, uncomfortable temporary classroom. Bupana wants to be a teacher when she's older, but if she can't receive a quality education her dreams will be lost. But with your help, we'll provide Bupana with a permanent classroom and give her back the future she deserves.
In 2015 Nepal was devastated by two earthquakes in less than three weeks. Over 36,000 classrooms were destroyed or heavily damaged and more than 1 million children, including Bupana, are now learning in terrible conditions. This is causing further harm to Bupana by denying her a quality education. This threatens her future by locking her into a cycle of poverty.
Your donations will be used to provide a permanent classroom for Bupana. Specifically this project will repair one permanent classroom at the Shree Bim Adarsha school in Bhaktapur. The school's beams and columns were left structurally intact by the earthquake, but many of the walls collapsed. Your donations make one classroom safe and usable by rebuilding and rendering brick walls, and by replacing doors and windows. We'll then paint to make the classroom beautiful.
Your donations will give Bupana back her education and help her escape poverty when she's older. Bhaktapur is not far from Kathmandu but its more rural location means that kids like Bupana are poorer, and more neglected, than those in the capital. By allowing us to provide a permanent classroom for Bupana, you'll ensure she not only recovers from the earthquakes, but also builds a stronger future in the long-term.
