As Ukrainians enter the third year of war, their resilience—and the steadfast support of people worldwide—remain essential to their survival and path to recovery. In this moment of escalating crisis for Ukrainians, GlobalGiving is offering a match on donations at 50% through our Together for Ukraine campaign.
Three years ago, on February 24, 2022, Russia launched the largest state-against-state attack since World War II by invading Ukraine. In response, Ukraine’s military and citizens braced for intense bombardments in major cities like Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol, with millions of Ukrainians fleeing to neighboring countries in search of safety and shelter.
Despite these overwhelming challenges, Ukraine’s military and citizens have displayed extraordinary resilience, using every resource available to defend their country and protect their communities.
Ukrainians now face new challenges, further exacerbated by the sudden halt of US humanitarian assistance, deepening the risks for millions. As we pass this painful anniversary, we honor their strength and the unwavering support of a fierce global network of donors. This network has been a lifeline, enabling life-saving work on the frontlines and ensuring Ukraine can rebuild and thrive in the years ahead.
Right now, during the Together for Ukraine campaign, GlobalGiving is matching donations at 50%, helping to amplify this vital support.
As Ukraine enters the third year of war, it’s important that we remain committed to supporting the people of Ukraine.
The challenges remain immense, but so does the resolve of the Ukrainian people and the organizations working tirelessly to support them. Even as cities continue to face devastating attacks, community-driven efforts persist, often with the help of international partners and donors.
The GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, for example, has raised more than $69 million with the help of donors and companies. These funds have been channeled to local nonprofits working on the ground in Ukraine and surrounding countries where many Ukrainians remain displaced. These local organizations have been vital in providing immediate relief, including food, shelter, medical care, and emotional support, as well as long-term recovery efforts.
The frontlines of war are not just defined by weapons and battlefields—they also include the quiet, targeted efforts that sustain life amidst the chaos. Many organizations that we are honored to partner with embody this reality, offering a different kind of frontline support for Ukrainians still experiencing this painful war.
Lifeline Ukraine, for instance, faced a dramatic increase in suicide prevention calls as the war intensified. For a period from April to June 2024, people in Ukraine needing emergency support had no suicide prevention hotline to turn to. A recent grant from the GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund allowed their hotline to resume operations. “It is for this reason that I refer to the grant from GlobalGiving as a “lifeline” for LifeLine Ukraine and for everyone who has come to find comfort in our existence,” a partner from LifeLine told us.
In another vital effort, Tvoya Opora renovated and reopened their center for psychological and social rehabilitation, which was damaged during the invasion of Bucha. Thanks to backing from the Fund, the center now offers trauma therapy and special education services. “The center helps restore a sense of normalcy and ensures children can experience childhood despite the hardships they’ve endured,” said Oksana Plakhotniuk, a GlobalGiving grants consultant for the Ukraine crisis.
When a recent missile strike destroyed Happy Paw’s warehouse, which held essential food and supplies for thousands of stray and abandoned animals, their team sought support from GlobalGiving to keep their operations running. Similarly, Mission Kharkiv used their grant to provide life-saving treatments to cancer patients in warzones and to replace critical medical storage facilities damaged by the attacks.
But it’s not just within Ukraine’s borders where help is needed. Across the region, organizations are stepping up to support those displaced by the war. Ateliere Fără Frontiere, a GlobalGiving partner based in Romania, opened spots in their workshops for Ukrainian refugees, helping them find jobs and gain financial independence while living in displacement. “We’re helping people find a job that suits them and their interests,” says the team. “We also focus on self-care and empowering people in the community to create connections.”
These initiatives go beyond mere survival—they are powerful demonstrations of resilience and the immense difference that consistent support can make in communities facing such overwhelming challenges.
It’s through contributions from donors like you that these organizations can continue their critical work, helping to heal, protect, and rebuild in the face of overwhelming adversity.
These acts of courage, support, and rebuilding remind us that no one should face this crisis alone. It’s through the generosity of donors like you that these critical efforts continue, offering hope and tangible assistance to those who need it most.
In these challenging and volatile times, the need for comprehensive aid—including shelter, food, clean water, community services, and emotional support—remains urgent.
Right now, the U.S. foreign aid halt is straining local responders who relied on support from the U.S. government for daily operations. “And yet, these leaders remain on the frontlines rebuilding what has been lost,” said Victoria Vrana, GlobalGiving CEO.
“They are the reason I believe so deeply in the power of community-led change.”
“Through GlobalGiving’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, we have been able to support these incredible leaders. This fund has been, and continues to be, a lifeline—not just in moments of crisis, in the long, difficult work of recovery,” said Vrana.
Right now, during the Together for Ukraine campaign, GlobalGiving will match your donation at 50%.
This opportunity helps double the impact of your support for vetted, local nonprofits in Ukraine and neighboring Ukrainian refugee host nations, providing critical food, shelter, health care, and other life-saving support.
Together, we can ensure that Ukrainians have the resources they need to survive and rebuild. We invite you to stand with us in continued commitment to Ukrainians still enduring this terrible war. Ongoing support of the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund offers a lifeline for people struggling to survive, while also laying the groundwork for community-led restoration and recovery into the future.
