As you reflect on how to better value education in the new year, here are three new year goals to help you get there.
With 2024 coming to a close, there is so much to reflect on and consider for the new year to come. While it may not have been easy, we commend you for giving this year your best self—you did great! Every act to make the world a better place counts, especially when it comes to educating ourselves and supporting the education of others.
Now is the season of “New Year’s Resolutions” where we can really start to plot out what will make 2025 even better, and for some of us it’s centered around education. So if you’re looking to enhance your support for education around the world, here are three simple new year’s resolutions you should explore:
If you value education, reading is a fantastic way to invest in your own continuous learning. Set the goal that makes sense for you, starting with a small increase in your average reading. Maybe you’re just starting to read more, and reading one book a quarter is a good starting point. Or maybe you’re ready to commit to reading a book or more every month!
If a book number doesn’t feel like a good goal to you, consider making time-based reading goals. Even just 10 minutes of reading per day can bring the wisdom, magic, or peace that you may be seeking in 2025.
Learning often means pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. When you explore new hobbies, you open yourself up to learning about new locations, cultures, and people. But there are also countless online classes to expand your horizons without even leaving your home—cooking, exercise, art, etc.
If new things make you nervous, consider choosing something you wouldn’t normally do, but that’s related to something you already love. Is your current hobby cycling? Once a week, try hiking through a local trail instead! Maybe your current hobby is playing video games. Pick up a new board game to try out with your friends!
Investing in your own education is valuable and important, but it can be even more rewarding to invest in the education of others. Find nonprofit education projects that inspire you. Or learn about a new project in a new place in the world by becoming a member of the GlobalGiving Project of the Month Club.
