Here’s how innovative companies are using charitable gift cards to celebrate the season.
Are your year-end employee or client gifts getting stale? Spark creativity and spread joy with seven charitable gift card program ideas from Discovery, Liquidnet, Facebook, Tripadvisor, Twitter, Route 66 Ventures, and Pinterest.
Discovery Inc. knows that the gift of giving makes for a happier workplace. Every year, their human resources team sends each of its 7,000 global employees a GlobalGiving eCard with a special holiday message. The eCards are customized according to employees’ time zones and the languages they use at work. The best part? Discovery learns which causes are most important to employees in each region, which can inform their global social responsibility initiatives.
Liquidnet offers an opportunity for their employees’ children to create artwork showing how they want to a make a difference in the world. In exchange, families receive a GlobalGiving Gift Card to donate to the charitable project of their choice. Liquidnet worked with GlobalGiving to design a custom page featuring kid-centric causes such as small business grants for girls in Cameroon and health care for orphans in Colombia.
Every December, Facebook mails client gifts to their digital advertisers. Each package includes a traditional gift, such as a branded blanket or water bottle, but it also includes a charitable gift card. They’ve branded it with a message about the spirit of giving: “Something for you, and something for others.”
When Tripadvisor Charitable Foundation made a commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework, they wanted to educate their employees about the global goals. So, they created a customized giving page for their year-end gift card program. Employees could then browse to find a cause to redeem their $250 gift card by clicking on goals like No Poverty and Quality Education.
The Latin America team at Twitter wanted their client gifts to be something special. The team worked with GlobalGiving to send customized charitable gift cards in Spanish and feature disaster recovery projects based in Puerto Rico and Mexico on a custom giving page.
Route 66 Ventures’ employees are all based in the United States, so their leadership wanted to feature more local giving options. Their giving page featured a search engine with all registered US 501(c)(3) charities so employees had even more local choices when redeeming their gift cards.
During the holiday season, Pinterest has partnered with GlobalGiving to provide gift cards to their international team members. With gift cards, shipping costs are lower (or nonexistent for eCards!) and there’s less reason to be concerned about packages getting stuck in customs. Plus, with charitable projects in more than 160 countries, there’s bound to be a choice that will resonate with global employees!
