Explained In 30 Seconds: What Is GivingTuesday?

I asked Katie Nealon, GlobalGiving’s Network Manager, to explain the purpose of GivingTuesday. She answered in under 30 seconds!

Q: What is GivingTuesday?

A: GivingTuesday is an international day of charitable giving. Each year, it happens right after Thanksgiving. Every year, GivingTuesday gets bigger and bigger! Last year, GlobalGiving project partners raised over $2 million for amazing projects around the world.

Q: When does GivingTuesday happen this year?

A: Mark your calendar for Dec. 3, 2019.

Q: Why should companies get involved in GivingTuesday?

A: Studies show philanthropy is good for your community and your bottom line. For example, bank employees who were given $50 to donate to a charity were happier and more satisfied with their jobs as compared to employees who did not donate. And consumers are willing to pay more for a product if it’s from a company with a commitment to social values, according to this Nielsen study.

Q: How can GlobalGiving help my company or foundation get involved in GivingTuesday?

A: It’s easy! To get started, I recommend checking out my team’s cause marketing and API services. You can contact a member of our partnerships team at any time to discuss your GivingTuesday options.

Q: How can individuals get involved in GivingTuesday?

A: Donate your time or talents as a volunteer. Spread the word about the importance of giving on this day. And make a donation to your favorite nonprofit. You can choose from thousands of causes in more than 170 countries through GlobalGiving, plus get matching offers. Explore projects!
