La reconstruccion no ha terminado / Recovery is not finished

By Maria Villalpando | GlobalGiving Mexico Partnerships Consultant

________

A year ago this month, thousands of Mexicans brought support and aid to those in need, everything from picking up bricks to welcoming strangers who lost everything into their homes.

On the one-year anniversary of the back-to-back earthquakes that shook Mexico on September 2017, the recovery efforts–physical and emotional–are still alive. Thousands of people were affected and the long-term support and recovery won't stop until we are able to bring normality and dignity to everyone impacted.

Thanks to collaboration with Fondo Semillas, funds have been granted to several community-led nonprofits, groups, and women cooperatives eager to rebuild with the kind of passion and energy that is only visible after a disaster.

These are just a few of the ways your support and donations have helped recovery efforts:

- In Puebla, the State Association of Indigenous and Farmer Women Xasasti Yolistli AC has led the reconstruction of the many houses damaged in the community.

- In Morelos, House by House for Morelos rebuilt the women's community center where loom workshops are now available.

- In Oaxaca, the Women’s Committee of the People’s Assembly of San Dionisio del Mar has helped in the reconstruction process of the stoves traditionally used to bake tortilla chips.

- In the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, A Helping Hand for Oaxaca has led a program of economic reactivation.

From rebuilding homes, stoves, and public spaces to bringing psychological and emotional support after the crisis, local groups are healing communities around the country devastated by the earthquakes last September.

The work continues today, and we are grateful for the support you have given, without which, none of this would be possible.
