In light of the current pandemic, African Impact Foundation (AIF) have been forced to halt many ongoing projects in Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa alike. The past months of isolation and restrictions have highly limited the usual influx of funds. Particularly the ones intended for core operation costs both on-ground and at head office. At the moment, AIF are not able to function to their full capacity. With your help, they would be able to better support all phenomenal staff, organize more COVID-19 responses in local communities whilst still continuing critical core projects.
The community needs and government regulations vary depending on location and country. As such, this fundraiser is not intended for specific projects, but to support the work of AIF in its entirety. While contributing to relief efforts during the pandemic is critical, AIF are equally committed to continuing their work in a post-COVID Africa. The journey for these communities to achieve their hopes and dreams doesn’t end when the pandemic does. Here is a list of what’s currently being done in the different locations:
¤ Lagoni Old People’s Home in Moshi have received handwashing stations and already established nutrition programs for the residents continue,
¤ In Cape Town, donations of clothes, school supplies, hygiene products and food parcels were made to vulnerable community members still in lockdown,
¤ Members of the women’s groups in Livingstone were hired in collaboration with a local business to make face masks for students as the schools reopened,
¤ The team in Jambiani hosted a training session with community members on fighting the spread of COVID-19 and distributes care packages of soap, masks and clothes,
¤ In St. Lucia, home-based care intends to continue to address the critical medical needs of the community and
¤ Upkeep of the gardens and land for the Farmers of the Future project have resumed to prepare for the awaiting return of participants in Kruger.
Small streams make great rivers! Here are a few examples of current project costs:
$1 to make a face mask
$9 to set up a handwashing station
$25 to distribute a food and hygiene parcel
$50 to supply the Lagoni Old People’s Home with a month’s worth of fruit (as part of the nutrition program)
$50 to supply a nursery school class with a month’s worth of porridge breakfast
With this fundraiser we are also hoping to illustrate what that journey might look like for different people. Alongside any monetary contributions, we want you to share a piece of your personal dream. Something or someone that inspires or motivates you at the moment. It could be a song, a poem, a painting, a cooked meal, a DIY-project, a photo or anything else of your choosing. Please visit www.roadofdreams.org for more information and to submit.
