Bonjour à toutes et à tous,
Je m'appelle Orphanie Bégon-Leroy. Je suis la directrice de l’Institution Mixte Canado-Haïtienne (IMCH), une école fondée par ma mère, feu Madeleine Bégon, en l’an 2000 à Tabarre, Port-au-Prince, Haïti.
Il y a quelque temps, j’ai fait un choix que beaucoup ont du mal à comprendre : quitter le confort du Canada pour revenir en Haïti. Pourquoi ? Parce que je crois encore en ce pays. Parce que cette école est un héritage d’amour et de mission. Et parce que je sais que tant qu’il y a des enfants en uniforme, il y a encore de l’espoir à bâtir. Parce que l'éducation aide à garder les enfants loin des rues, loin du banditisme.

Aujourd’hui, je vous invite à nous aider à réaliser trois projets essentiels, à compléter avant septembre 2025 :
1. Aménagement de l'entrée principale de l’école, pour offrir un environnement digne et sécuritaire à nos élèves.
2. Isoler et réparer les toitures des sections primaire et secondaire.
Dans le bâtiment primaire, la toiture est recouverte de tôles métalliques, ce qui absorbe toute la chaleur. Résultat : les enfants et les enseignants travaillent sous une chaleur étouffante, accablante.
Dans le bâtiment secondaire, la toiture est endommagée, laissant passer l’eau. Quand il pleut, nous devons évacuer les élèves, perturbant leur apprentissage et notre organisation.
3. Créer une cour de récréation plus sécuritaire pour les enfants de la maternelle, qui jouent actuellement sur une dalle de béton avec des structures métalliques.
Nous travaillerons avec SK CONSTRUCTIONS, une compagnie reconnue dans le domaine, pour assurer un travail de qualité, en toute transparence.

✨ Ce que cela représente pour moi
Ce n’est pas juste une école. C’est un appel, une responsabilité, une foi en la jeunesse.
Mes collègues me demandent souvent : “Madame, pourquoi vous restez ici alors que vous avez d’autres possibilités ?”
La réponse est simple : je ne veux pas abandonner.
Je crois que nous devons enrichir les mentalités si nous voulons voir émerger une autre Haïti. Et pour ça, il faut des lieux qui inspirent, qui élèvent, qui transmettent autre chose que la résignation.
La population locale a appris à se contenter du strict minimum. Mais moi, ayant été scolarisée à la fois ici en Haïti et au Canada — à Port-au-Prince et sur la rive sud de Montréal, à Saint-Hubert — je sais ce que c’est qu’une école où les enfants peuvent respirer, jouer, apprendre dans la dignité.

📊 Pourquoi votre aide compte
Le peuple haïtien est fatigué. Il a été trahi, trop souvent abandonné. Mais il se bat encore. Et tant qu’il y a des enfants en uniforme sur les bancs de nos classes, nous avons une obligation morale : continuer à bâtir avec ce que nous avons.

Hello everyone,
My name is Orphanie Bégon-Leroy, and I am the director of the Institution Mixte Canado-Haïtienne (IMCH), a school founded by my late mother, Madeleine Bégon, in the year 2000 in Tabarre, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
A while ago, I made a decision that many still don’t understand: I left the comfort of Canada and returned to Haiti. Why? Because I still believe in this country. Because this school is a legacy of love and mission. And because as long as there are children in uniform, there is hope to build upon.

Today, I invite you to help us complete three essential projects by September 2025:
1. Renovating the school's main entrance, to offer students a dignified and safe environment.
2. Repairing and insulating the roofs of both the primary and secondary buildings.
In the primary building, the roof is covered with metal sheets that trap heat. The classrooms become unbearably hot, making it hard for students to focus and for teachers to teach. Children must drink water constantly to stay hydrated, and the teachers sweat heavily throughout the day. In the secondary building, the issue is rain. The roof leaks, forcing us to evacuate classrooms when it rains—interrupting learning and disrupting school routines. Adding proper insulation and fixing the roofs is crucial for providing a stable and safe learning environment.
3. Creating a safer, better-equipped playground for the children in kindergarten. Because play is part of learning too.
We are one of the very few schools still operating in our area while many others have had to close due to the country's instability. Despite limited resources, our team continues to teach, uplift, and serve our students every single day.
✨ What this means to me
This is not just a school. It is a calling, a responsibility, a testament to faith in the youth.
People often ask me:
“Madame, why are you still here when you could be somewhere else?”
And my answer is simple: I don’t want to give up.
We must enrich minds and shift mentalities if we want to see a different Haiti rise. To do that, we need places that uplift, that spark hope and vision.
People in Haiti have learned to live with the bare minimum. But having gone to school both in Port-au-Prince and in Canada—on the South Shore of Montreal, in Saint-Hubert—I know what a real school environment can be.
I didn’t grow up in luxury, or in elite private schools. But I experienced clean, bright, functional institutions—places where students could breathe, learn, and dream.
Our kids deserve the same. Not someday. Now.
