Permit me to share this true story of my life with you. I deemed it worthwhile sharing with you.
Everyday of my life, as a little child, my mom's voice kept going through my head, '"Take the helping hand when you need it, and give back when you don't"'. I could imagine then, carrying my younger sister through the grocery store can seem like a chore. But then I read stories like Andrew’s and gain some much-needed perspective. Andrew, a young boy, and his family fled to the bush to escape the ongoing war and violence in the southeast. The only way to cross the border into neighboring town was to climb a mountain during winter.
Andrew’s mom had to carry three children — one child on each hip and a baby strapped to her back. Andrew suffers from partial blindness and various mental challenges. His mother relied on the help of a stranger to guide Andrew over the mountain. The family now lives in a refugee camp. Though they continue to face obstacles. Andrew’s family have hope with the help of your gifts, no matter how little it may be.
In light of the current situation in Southeast, Nigeria, in the 2021 Global Hunger Index, Nigeria ranks 103rd out of the 116 countries with sufficient data to calculate 2021 GHI scores. With a score of 28.3, Nigeria has a level of hunger that is serious. facing hunger because of insecurity, COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of fight hunger and food insecurity in southeast, Nigeria, project on GlobalGiving is to provide emergency food, water, and winter supplies to these struggling refugees and victims of Boko Haram insurgency.
