The Pregnant Women are Knocking at the Unfinished Door

The Front Door - Where many will be welcomed
The Front Door - Where many will be welcomed

The builders were inside, painting, hammering cabinets into the wall, tiling the edge of a sink...when a woman stopped by. Obviously pregnant, she asked when the new Mercy in Action birth center would be completed because,  she said,  "I want to give birth here".

A few weeks later, it happened again. Then twice in one week. Now it is a regular thing for the pregnant women in our community  to be stopping by to ask "Will it be ready for me when I go into labor?"

Please help us finish this project and get it open before any of these lady's due dates, so that they can experience the safety, kindness, respect, and affordable (free) health care that will be offered behind these walls when completed.

Our goal is to be open as soon as we can. Only $10,000 is left to be raised for the birth center and clinic to be completed and furnished... please give generously so that we can finish and get it open.

The beautiful mothers are standing at our door...

Love,

Vicki and the Mercy Team in the Philippines

Lifesaving Birth Care

Mercy In Action midwife pays a home visit

UNICEF just put out a new report this week stating that despite progress in maternal/child health, every 11 seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies somewhere around the world.

“Around the world, birth is a joyous occasion. Yet, every 11 seconds, a birth is a family tragedy,” said Henrietta Fore, Unicef’s executive director. “A skilled pair of hands to help mothers and newborns around the time of birth, along with clean water, adequate nutrition, basic medicines, and vaccines, can make the difference between life and death."

We must do better!  We must do all it takes to save these precious lives. And that is where NGOs like Mercy In Action come in. We have now provided safe, clean, compassionate and evidence-based midwifery care for the births of more than 15,000 babies in the Philippines since 1991.  With excellent outcomes.

Poverty, lack of facilities, and inadequate and expensive health services are the problems women face.

Mercy In Action has pioneered a system of free to the patient maternity care that meets these needs. But we could not do it without our donors. Your support helps us continue to provide top-level services with added benefits to families like baby clothes, blankets, and food, prenatal vitamins, and children's vitamins and medicine.

Thank you for your support!

Build for Birth July 18 Matching Funds Day!

Architectural Design
Architectural Design

We are so excited to tell you about the progress on building our newest Mercy In Action birth center and clinic in the Philippines. The roof is on, the interior walls are going up, and this week we will begin electrical and plumbing. We can’t do this without you!

This building will provide a safe and respectful place for the mothers in our community to give birth, without the barriers of cost or discrimination they face currently. We have structured this birthing home, like all our work in this low resource, high mortality country, to have no cost to the patient for care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Mercy In Action birth centers has kept statistics on our outcomes for the past 28 years in the Philippines, and our rate of newborn survival at birth is 4 times better than the nation’s. So, we can be sure that this newest birth center will save lives and improve the health of tens of thousands of babies in our community in the decades to come.

But we need your help to finish this building and to furnish it with all the equipment needed for a licensed and accredited birthing home. Will you keep helping our projects thrive so that new babies can thrive also?

We’re reaching out to you, our supporters, to let you in on a special opportunity from our partner, GlobalGiving, to get donations of $100 USD and up matched on Thursday, July 18, 2019, starting at 9 a.m. ET. The higher the amount, the higher the match while funds last.

On July 18th, starting at 9 am Eastern Time, Global Giving will begin to release matching funds for all donations from $100 to $1,000. Please join us on that day to push us over the top on this vital and life-saving building project. If enough of our supporters give big on this day, we will also be eligible for bonus cash prizes from GlobalGiving, which will make our money go even further toward helping vulnerable families around the time of birth. Thank you!
