The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company

The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company seeks to explore the original theatrical practices of the acting companies of Shakespeare's time; to provide high quality productions of works by Shakespeare and his contemporaries to regional theatre audiences; to provide local actors, directors, and stage managers the opportunity to work with these wonderful scripts and to receive training in an original practice approach to Shakespeare's plays; and to maintain an organizational philosophy in which theatre practitioners participate in the administration of the company on a regular basis.

2015 Festival Gearing Up!

Dates are set for the 2015 Lake Effect Fringe Festival.  Thanks to all of our supporters, we will be able to undertake the third annual festival, highlighting the work of West Michigan theatre artists and providing our regional audiences with a month of exciting live theatre.

The 2015 LEFF will take place from January 29-March 1 at the Dog Story Theater in Grand Rapids.  All of the founding organizations of the festival return with theatrical offerings.  The Stark Turn Players will once again present their festival of 10-minute plays, producing scripts chosen from a competition for local playwrights.  The festival will also feature a gender-reversed As You Like It presented by the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, and a new production by GEM Theatrics.  We are currently in the process of accepting applications for additional performing groups.

The Lake Effect Fringe Festival is excited to continue our mission of drawing attention to the work of local and regional artists, and providing Grand Rapids-area audiences with compelling, performer-focused productions.  We again thank all those who have supported and continue to support this project.  We will see you all this coming winter at the festival!

Plans for 2015 Lake Effect Fringe Festival

Plans are underway for a Third Annual Lake Effect Fringe Festival. Thanks to the support of our audiences and donors like you, we have had two successful festivals showcasing the theatrical talent of West Michigan. Audiences have seen original plays by local playwrights, re-interpretations of classic plays, improvisational comedy, performance art, one-man shows, and much more. Local response to the festival has been so overwhelming that we are looking forward to doing it again. As in the past two years, we are targeting the month of February for another festival in which theatre groups from West Michigan and the Midwest region work together to promote each other's work and to provide our regional audiences with outstanding performing arts programming.

We thank you all for your ongoing support of this project! The project will remain available on Global Giving, and any donations that we receive this year will go towards securing a performance space for the next festival, as well as promoting the performances that will take place.

Second Annual Lake Effect Fringe Festival

The Second Annual Lake Effect Fringe Festival took place from January 30-March 2, 2014.  This year's festival featured performances by M.Y. Musical World, Lucas Brooks, GEM Theatrics, Stark Turn Players, Southside Theater Company, Alea Iacta Est, Grand Valley Shakespeare Festival, the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, and No Outlet Improv.  All of these groups are based in or originally from West Michigan, and they did an outstanding job of giving our regional audiences an opportunity to see a wide variety of theatrical performance by local artists.  The festival included musicals, original works by local playwrights, innovative productions of classical works, and exciting improvisational performances.

This year's festival received some outstanding media coverage from MLive, On-the-Town, WGVU Radio, Rapid Growth Media, Encore Michigan, and Broadway World Detroit.  The cooperation between West Michigan theatre groups to promote and support each other's work was wonderful.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported this project on GlobalGiving.  Any donations that come in after March 2 will go towards the planning for next year's festival!
