Our key Objectives: To support children to learn through interaction and play by involving care givers and parents in development of learning aid and creating a safe learning environment. To promote play to enable children in ECD centres develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. To give opportunity to children in school and out of school to acquire a better life through formal and non formal education. To promote parenting sessions for parents with children 0-3years to understand and acquire skills in child development domains for support to children to achieve their growth holistically. To empower adolescent girls and boys in and out of school with Reproductive health information for a better well being. Our strategic approaches Research and Policy Analysis Advocacy Systems Strengthening Partnership Development Human Rights Programming The key thematic areas include:- Gender Based Violence: achieved through working with communities to prevent Gender Based violence against women and Men, Girls and boys by establishing school clubs to support girls and boys, Community awareness on GBV, facilitation of key stakeholders to promote, advocacy for policy reforms, Partnerships: Within this strategy, the emphasis is put on building partnerships with and between different sectors (health, social, security, and legal) and on working with communities, including men and boys. Systems strengthening: This is done with particular focus on strengthening health, police and legal institutions and supporting closer collaboration between them. Skills building and development: Within this strategy, comprehensive training of service providers, e.g. health workers, school club leaders, police, teachers, community leaders etc. is envisioned, particularly to build and strengthen a multi-sectoral response for GBV survivors at the community level. Service delivery: the emphasis is put on GBV screening, treatment, psycho-social support and counselling and legal aid. Education: IFOCORD recognises the existing situations of orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda. In order to restore their hopes, we ensure they are supported to attain better education. This is promoted through promotion of right to inclusive Education by providing safer schools for children 4-12 years. We believe every child has a fundamental right to education, and must be given the opportunity to achieve and maintain an acceptable level of learning for a holistic growth and development. The key activities include:- Training of the school management committees to support in school governance Provision of scholastic materials to orphans and vulnerable children. Support with scholarships for orphans and vulnerable children in secondary and tertiary institutions. Supply of sitting facilities to schools. Provision of text books and laboratory equipments to schools. Construction of teacher's quarters and staff quarters Training of teachers to support girls with menstrual health information. Provision of feeding materials to schools. Construction of Nursery classrooms for pre-school learning. Maternal and child health: IFOCORD promotes community based safe motherhood initiatives and strengthen the capacity of communities to demand for services and accountability from Maternal and Child Health duty bearers. This is done through the following activities;- Support to government health facilities to carry out reaches for Immunizations and supplementary nutrients for children. We promote dialogue with mothers to promote exclusive breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for infants under six months. Training of Community health workers to distribute basic drugs at community level. Treatment for severely malnourished children. Distribution of food supplements to malnourished households. Adolescent sexual reproductive health services: IFOCORD aims at increasing access & utilization of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services among the young people. Formation of adolescent girls and boys in groups. Support to girls of IGAs for girls. Training of mentors to support train groups on Sexual reproductive health services. Support to girls in school with menstrual hygiene management. Promotion of menstrual cups to school going girls Referral of girls to family planning services HIV/AIDS testing and counseling Livelihoods and Youth Economic Empowerment: IFOCORD aims to contribute to the wellbeing of young people including the OVCs through improving nutrition and food security, enterprise development that enable young people to either start own enterprises or get employment. The activities implemented under this include:- Support to young farmers groups with farm inputs. Support to farmers groups with grain banking and marketing Training of farmer groups on Agronomic best practices. Training of farmers group on pest control, management and post harvesting management. Supply to farmers with storage facilities Support to farmer to form cooperatives. Support to farmers with soft loans at low cost. Linkages of farmers to markets. Support to farmers with value addition Economic Empowerment: IFOCORD promotes training programmes on skill development implemented, to help improve the employability of the working population including school drop-outs, semi-skilled and un-skilled workers. These programmes include:- Vocational training (Tailoring, Catering, and Saloon, motorcycle repairs and motor mechanics). Support to the youth with start up kits Establishment of apprenticeship centres Support to the young people to start small scale business enterprises. Agriculture: IFOCORD undertakes interventions in agriculture and livestock management. Such interventions have been designed to improve efficiency in production systems, lower input costs, increase per capita output, and improve food and nutritional security at household level. There activities include:- Support to farmers with training of animal management. Supply of farmers with livestock. Support to farmers with drugs for animal treatment. Support to youth groups to set up community based farms. The above activities and strategies give IFOCORD a direction to transform the lives of vulnerable people for a better wellbeing now and in the next generation to come.
