Future of Africa (FOA) serves two distinct groups of youth in Ghana to break the cycle of poverty and create an atmosphere where future Ghanaian leaders take responsibility for social change. First, we work with student volunteers from universities throughout Ghana to mentor and rehabilitate youth living in street situations. Through their experiential learning, university student volunteers (FOA Fellows) in our program develop the ability to identify social challenges in their communities and employ the tools necessary for addressing them. Most importantly, through ongoing mentorship of children living in street situations, FOA Fellows build relationships with and empathy for the most vulnerable individuals in our communities, which we hope will forever inspire them toward social justice. Second, as part of our mission to develop youth leaders, FOA serves youth living in street situations in Ghana. This program is called Norviwo. Children living in street situations who choose to participate in Norviwo join a cohort of peers in similar situations and stay at our Norviwo Community Center, where they build healthy life skills, receive medical care, and eventually transitioning to a local school to complete their education. Norviwo students work closely with FOA university mentors throughout their journey, creating a circle of transformation that enrichens the mentor's perspective and shifts the child's trajectory toward a productive, hopeful future.
