In Cross River State, women were dying annually from pregnancy-related complications that could be prevented through targeted and sustained public health awareness campaigns, increased availability of family planning services and training for health care providers. New HIV infections were on the increase and the HIV prevalent rate was at 6.6% in Cross River rate. Teenage pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases were fast becoming huge source of concern in the state. Many of the avowed rights had also been severely curtailed, and the environmental condition in Cross River State had also become more challenging as the state and her people were faced with refuse all over and this had led to the breeding of diseases and rodents. Mrs. Arit Egbe the vision bearer realized that the situation needed to be addressed immediately and as a local NGO, with unique insights into the different cultures, and a budding relationship with the local partners, GFH was in a better position to give guidance to the policymakers. Over the years GHF has positively impacted the lives of community members through effective community mobilization/outreaches where sanitation and hygiene campaigns have been carried out. Demand creation for health facility services uptake for pregnant women and women of reproductive age have been promoted and the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights of young women and girls through youth-friendly services have been addressed.
