Every year,OCDI joins the rest of the world to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child(IDG).This year ,OCDI invited 200 Adolescent girls from public and private schools in Asa LGA,Kwara State to commemorate the day on friday October 11th,2019 with the theme "Empowerment for the future".
This year ,OCDI invited female professional bodies such as Engineers,Pilots, Biochemist,Journalist,Lawyers and Opthamologists to sensitize the girls on how they use 21st century skills in thier daily work and how it has helped them succeed.
Girls were divided into different groups and had sessions with the professionals.At the end of the program,some of the girls interviewed had this to say;
i. I learnt that engineering makes works easy and faster wit the use of technology-Oyinkansola-15 years old
ii.I learnt to be bold,be able to talk in front of the crowd and have the motive of yes i can.-Glory-13 years Old
iii.I learnt to be focused on whatever i am doing and not let anyone distract me.I also learnt that technology can help me to know what the weather will be.-Charity-16 years old
iv.I leanrt that i have the right to do whatever i want.-Ayobami-12 years old.
Sessions on human rights and Child Sexual Abuse was used to kick start the program and was facilitated by a staff of the Human Rights Commission and OCDI program officer.
We have been getting positive feedbacks from the program most especially on Human rights and Sexual Abuse.This has propelled us to intensify our efforts on Gender based violence and Child sexual Abuse programming.
