FMIC Patient Welfare Program - December Update

Warm greetings from the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC)!

The healthcare system in Afghanistan faces many challenges in providing safe and quality healthcare to its people due to an unstable political system and poor economy. For a nation where children still continue to battle diseases like diarrhoea and polio and where women lose their lives during pregnancy and childbirth, FMIC is a beacon of hope and sanguinity. It is a place where they can receive high quality medical care at par with international standards irrespective of their ability to pay for the services.

Led by our core mission of making quality healthcare services accessible to the Afghans we are fully committed to ensure accessibility of our services to all Afghans irrespective of their race, gender, ethnicity, religion, and financial status through FMIC’s patient welfare programme. Various public and private entities, and individual donors contribute to the Patient Welfare Programme, including the Government of Afghanistan, the Government of France, the Aga Khan Development Network La Chaine de L’Espoir, and Roshan Telecommunication.

Through this report we share with you some statistics on Patient Welfare Programme and the difference it makes in lives of people of Afghanistan.

Since inception in 2006 till November 2018, 501,178 patients, from all over Afghanistan, have been treated with patient welfare funds of which 452,937 were outpatient (clinics, radiology and laboratory) while, 48,241 were inpatient. Over all, US$ 36 million has been spent.

In 2018 (Jan-Nov) alone, 42,500 patients received support from FMIC’s Patient Welfare Programme in amount of US$ 3 million. Annually, the programme serves patients from every one of Afghanistan’s 34 Provinces.
