October 10th saw the grand opening of marugohan market. Many organization and governed agencies we work with attended. CEO Charles McJilton reminded everyone that marugohan came from a discussion with a long-time partner who talked about the Japanese value of giving back (ongaeshi). This positive approach to viewing the needs of those who access the market is instrumental in developing the program.
We also worked with HopeOne, as US nonprofit, to implement an electronic check-in process. This will help us collect more data in order for us to better serve marugohan market members.
We were happy to see 42 households come and shop with us on the first day.
We pre-registered 323 households in the month of September and expect them to visit us in the following weeks.
We will hold a press confernece on October 31 and expect to have many more people come after they see marugohan in the press.
We are glad to have the rennovation done and a new store to serve the community.
We experience out hottest summmer this year. We also saw major flooding in Western Japan that required our support.
During this hot summer we were able to sent out about 136 packages to single parents families with your support.
Here is comment (translated from Japanese) from a single-parent household:
"Thank you for all the food! We were getting short on rice and money, so when the food packages arrived it was the best timing! My children are growing fast, so I am trying my best not to make them worry about food. Thank you very much for your support."
Your contribution brings smile to their meal table and brings more choice of dishes. Food is not just an object that builds your body, food brings people together, creates happiness and leaves people feeling happ.
Everyone should have enough food every day. Your donation enabled us to send out packages to families in need.
