Happy Trails is Adding a New Program, "Real Life"

Real Life
Real Life

Happy Trails Riding Center is getting ready for a great year full of therapeutic riding and social opportunities. We are excited to launch a new support & social group called, “Real Life”.

Three years ago we incorporated Nate Asby who had Cerebral Palsy as an assistant instructor with our teaching staff for horse lessons. He attended many of our social opportunities. In the process, we started a weekly mentoring program to touch base on issues he was struggling with - issues that are common to people with disabilities and special needs. This is how the idea of, "Real Life" came to be. Nate sadly recently passed away but the idea of helping people to see what makes them different - makes them beautiful will live on in this new program.

"I went to happy trails and helped volunteer it was a good time we were standing and watching the lesson and one of the horses named Tex came over to me like wanted to be with me he put his head on my chest, another horse named Coby did the same thing. It helps me relax when I go there….I wish I could go there more often." – Nate Asby (from Facebook postings).

Other great things we have planned through August 2015 include:

  • Wednesday, June 23–(10-1:30) City of Lake Oswego Teen Volunteer Camp
  • Saturday, June 27th –Summer Day Camp 10-1:00 (kids & adults)
  • Saturday, July 18th Movie Night
  • Saturday, July 25th – Concert Fundraiser in Happy Trails Arena
  • Saturday, August 8th Ride-A-Thon (play day)

Thank you to all of you at Global Giving who support our programs for people with disabilities and special needs - together we are doing great things!

Tis The Season

Summer Camp Craft
Summer Camp Craft

As we end our riding season at Happy Trails Riding Center, we'd like to thank you for helping to make our programs possible! We’d like to let you know some of the great things we were able to accomplished in 2014 because of your support.

We provided approximately 285 total horse experiences, we held our summer and fall camps, held our movie night, fall dance with the City of West Linn Parks (approximately 60 people attended) and held our second “Cowboy Casino” fundraiser. In December we will have our annual holiday party with caroling and a visit from Santa..

But more important than the numbers of things we did is that we continue to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and special needs. We are making a difference and are so very thankful to all of our donors, volunteers, our instructors and of course our horses that are helping make riding and social opportunities available to people with disabilities and special needs.

We hope you will partner with us again to make our programs possible.

“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much” - Helen Keller

Thank you!
Sincerely,

Nicole Budden, Executive Director

Fall Fun At Happy Trails

Fall Dance
Fall Dance

Happy Trails Riding Center is a place for people with disabilities and special needs to learn about horses, ride and socialize. We are so thankful for our volunteers, horses and donors who make our program possible! Helen Keller said it beautifully, "Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much!"

We sadly say goodbye to summer and we will look forward to enjoying the warm days of riding again next year! We had a great summer camp and casino night fundraiser in addition to our lessons. We welcome fall which is always a lot fun at Happy Trails. We look forward to seeing many of our riders and friends at our annual fall dance & our pumpkin carving and riding camp and in lessons.

Thank you for being part of our Happy Trails family and making our place available to many to enjoy!

Sincerely,

Your Friends at Happy Trails Riding Center
