Spring 2016 - Making Dreams Come True

Emmy being congratulated

When there is a will - there is a way!

Emmy has taken riding lessons at Happy Trails Riding Center since 2010. Last year she joined the Lake Oswego High School Equestrian team. She showed mini horses in hand. She really wanted to ride, but we didn't have a horse appropriate for her to use to show. This year she again showed the mini horses in hand, but really wanted to ride in her senior ceremony at Yamhill County Fairgrounds in April. Her mom contacted me to see if we had any ideas for a horse for her ride. One of our horses, Dixey was showing for West Linn High School Equestrian team and we decided to have Emmy try her. I wasn't sure it would be a fit, but Emmy was determined to be riding a horse in her senior ceremony.  When we practiced at the fairgrounds, Emmy rode beautifully, she was so very proud to show her teammates and coach she could ride. Her team coach was impressed and approved her to ride in the senior ceremony.

When asked if she'd like to thank those who have supported her in OHSET Emmy said, "Miss Nicole (Happy Trails Riding Instructor) for teaching me and letting me finally make my dream come true by riding Dixie in the open practice arena."

On April 16th Emmy rode with the other high school seniors in the Oregon High School Equestrian Team Senior Ceremony. Her goals are to take art classes and hang out with friends after finishing high school. She would like to illustrate childrens books.

At Happy Trails we teach riding and provide social opportunities for people with disabilities and special needs. Sometimes we even help make dreams come true and we are so very proud to be part of that.

Winter 2016

We'd like to let you know the great things we accomplished last year with the help of our donors!

In 2015 we added a social support group for people with disabilities and special needs called, “Real Life”.  Ee built a new structure to have the meetings in.

In addition to our new program, we provided approximately 105 horse experiences, we held our fall camp, free movie night, fall dance with the City of West Linn Parks (approximately 60 people attended), and our “Happy Trails Hoedown Fundraiser”.

But more important than the numbers of things we did, is that we continue to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and special needs. We are so very thankful to all of our donors, volunteers and of course our horses that are helping make riding and social opportunities available to people with disabilities and special needs.

As we celebrate our 10th year providing services to people with disabilities and special needs, we hope you will partner with us again to continue making our programs possible.

Sincere thanks from,

Happy News from Happy Trails

Fall pumpkin carving and riding camp
Fall pumpkin carving and riding camp

Thank you to GlobalGiving for your continued support of our programs at Happy Trails Riding Center. With your help we continue to serve people with disabilities and special needs through horsemanship, riding and social opportunities.  Thanks to you, below are a few things we've been up to this fall.

A Love Story

John and Carole wanted to renew their wedding vows for their 50th wedding anniversary. They made plans to head to a guest ranch in Colorado with family and friends for the celebration. Their dream was to commemorate the occasion on horseback.

Before they embarked on their journey, they contacted Happy Trails Riding Center. Almost 10 years ago John unfortunately had a stroke and suffers from ataxia (a lack of muscle control during voluntary movements and weakness on his right side). Riding would be a somewhat of a challenge. They were hoping that Happy Trails could help.

With John’s can do attitude and help from Happy Trails team, their trip was a success.

“To say we had a wonderful time is really not expressing how great it really was for everyone, most especially John,” said Carole.

Congratulations to John and Carole. They are an inspiration. We look forward to being part of more of their life moments.

Fall Barn Dance

Happy Trails hosted a community-oriented autumn barn dance on Sept 12th. This one was especially planned for the particular enjoyment of teens and young adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. Family and friends joined in the fun as everyone kicked up their heels and had a great time. Thanks to West Linn Parks and Recreation for partnering!
Pumpkin Carving and Riding Camp
Our annual falll pumpkin carving and riding camp was lots of fun. Please see the attached article to read more.
